Wine Bar owner Josh Smith

Josh Smith – Owner

 

After five years of teaching middle school English in Myrtle Beach, Josh dove full time into bartending and hospitality management! Seeking a more year round tourism atmosphere, he moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2010. Fuji Sushi was the catalyst for eventually taking a leap of faith and buying The Wine Bar in 2021, which was the scariest and best decision! Over the past few years, The Wine Bar and its staff have grown. We are a tight-knit group of coworkers and friends who share a passion for wine and excellent service.

Gerry

Gerry Showalter – Bartender

 

After spending many years in the restaurant industry, including restaurant ownership as well as franchise development and operations, Gerry decided to come back to South Carolina to be near his family. When his friend Josh decided to buy The Wine Bar, Gerry plunged into the wine business and joined the staff as a bartender and server.

Ike

Ike Dees – Bartender

 

Originally from the Appalachians of North Carolina, Ike has been a Mount Pleasant local since 2008. In 2019, he graduated from The Citadel with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and pursued a career in software engineering and technical sales before joining The Wine Bar team in 2023. It didn’t take long before his love for the wine world took off, pushing him to seek education and certifications with WSET and The Court of Master Sommeliers. 

Jackson

Jackson Detar – Bartender

 

As a Charleston native, Jackson brings a welcoming, laid-back touch to The Wine Bar. Now with a family of his own, he continues to enjoy the variety of experiences and people the Lowcountry has to offer. While surrounded by wine experts and enthusiasts, he brings his own perspective—driven by curiosity and a genuine desire to grow.  Jackson helps guests find their next favorite glass, making wine a little less intimidating and whole lot more fun!

 

Patrick

Patrick Antis – Back of House

 

Having worked in several area kitchens, Lowcountry local Patrick knows it’s not Charleston without the food scene. He started at The Wine Bar years ago under different ownership. During his tenure, he watched the bar change hands, and with that, a whole new door of opportunity opened. Working for Josh, he’s had the pleasure of meeting some great people, making great food, and helping The Wine Bar become a must-stop spot for many. 

 

Jack

Jack Mahony – Back of House

 

As a Charleston native, Jack has had the pleasure of working all across the Lowcountry.  Jack first crossed paths with Josh while working at Fuji on Kiawah Island. When Josh reached out asking for help with the kitchen, Jack knew it was going to be a great fit. “I couldn’t ask for more out of The Wine Bar family; they even let me come in late when there are waves!”
